Disclaimer: this is my 1st amendment right. So don't read if you are offended read another day.
So I am sure many have heard about the craigslist killer who "supposedly" has been arrested. However, in the criminal justice field you are INNOCENT until proven guilty meaning the prosecutor has enough evidence to go to trial. The process starts after "he" is arraigned with the charges. According to the news, officers, officials, etc. the killer has been captured. I think because of society we are guilty until we prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the innocence of ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I think that if he is the killer than the law is going to rain down on him however the allegations are made by the prosecutor therefore it is her/his job to prove his/her case that he is in fact the asalent who murdered in cold blood and that it was premeditated.
The "murderer" is also due to have a fast and fair trial with a jury of his peers. Ok really, really how is he going to have a fair trial with the images and media coverage that is going on. He is innocent people till proven guilty that is how our system is "supposed" to work. Not guilty until he proves himself to be innocent. The media coverage is crazy and how is someone in todays society supposed to have a "fair" trial. While working at a law firm the word "fair" just wasn't used and I tried. Nothing in law is "FAIR" and that was something that my college education never taught.
I just have to say this and btw I could go on and on about this but I won't. Our system that has been put in place are tainted. We let killers back on to the streets and keep "non-violent" individuals in jail. Why, because of our system. We have jails that are over crowded, this 3 strikes rule that should be re-written, and gov.(nuf said see previous post). I believe that as Americans we have the right to a fair trial even if an offense is committed and the media should not be allowed to have access. Plaining say "We have captured a potentional suspect further information will be available after the trial".
The law is for all; those who choose to break said laws should be held accountable. Do I think that happens no! There was an article in People about kids who were given months in detention facility (juvenile hall) for not telling on a friend. But a murderer of two people is let off the hook because of his status in society or celebrities can arrange when they serve time. No place in the statuates does it state that due to your celebrity you have the option of choosing when you can serve. However, TI dude do your thing really. He is doing a show to promote his error and fix or deferr others from making the same mistakes. That is a major focus in criminal justice defferance, given them options to keep them away from the life that would lead to jail. But really Lil Kim had to "schedule time" what why, others are not given that option for the same infraction. The are carted off in the court room and have to look at there loved ones from across the room or in the cage. But "celebrities" (not all) get the FREEDOM to postpone service. This isn't jury duty, you can't postpone. Our system is tainted and only a handful follow even a fraction of the laws.
